James is a seasoned project manager with more than 15 years of experience delivering complex civil, mechanical, and land-based projects across New Zealand and Australia. His background spans a wide range of environments, where he has consistently led successful outcomes on technically challenging and multi-stakeholder programmes.

James has a strong track record in negotiating with private landowners, councils, iwi, consultants, and contractors. He has resolved access reinstatement, boundary, drainage, and occupation issues under demanding time frames, and is highly skilled in leading landowner engagement for multi-site programmes. His expertise includes establishing lease and access frameworks, negotiating amendments, resolving disputes, and securing mutually acceptable outcomes under the Public Works Act.

In recent years, James has played a key role in the Silt Recovery Cyclone Task-force, where he was responsible for negotiating with property owners and establishing and managing 16 silt sites across the Hawke’s Bay region. This work involved extensive community engagement, road maintenance and management, surveillance, and quality assurance. He has also overseen the construction of the Hastings District Council Water Treatment Plant, further demonstrating his capability in managing high-profile infrastructure projects.

James holds a Bachelor of Applied Management, majoring in Project Management, and grew up on a farm in Hawke’s Bay—an upbringing that has shaped his practical, grounded approach to problem‑solving. He also volunteers with Land Search & Rescue and is a qualified Rescue Diver.
