Laurence Sherriff

Laurence is a creative and analytical person who aims to challenge the status quo and improve how things are done. He tends to walk against the tide and take on more than he can chew.

In 2001, Laurence founded Align, a growing consultancy that started with two people and has now expanded to include around 60 employees. Before starting Align, Laurence spent 20 years working in the agriculture, banking, and energy industries.

Laurence’s educational background includes a Master’s degree in Resource and Environmental Planning, a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Engineering, and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Economics). Additionally, he completed the six-month Icehouse Owner and Managers programme. His expertise lies in project management, strategic planning, and the planning and property aspects of large-scale infrastructure projects. Laurence has a deep understanding of site and route selection, network utility operations, and the energy sector.

Outside of work, Laurence is a passionate boxer, having competed in two corporate boxing events. He believes the ‘sweet science’ requires more thought, tactical planning, and technical skills than most sports (having played at the national level). Boxing has taken him well beyond his comfort zone and taught him about humility, extreme fear, and reward through commitment. Laurence is interested in mental health, architecture, science fiction, farming, and helping young people get into sports.
