Challenge

The Baypark to Bayfair Link Upgrade of SH2/29A in Tauranga (Te Maunga Intersection to the SH2 Maunganui Road/ Girven Road intersection) involves a 1.6 km long section of state highway noted as a significant arterial route in Tauranga. The upgrade will provide improvements to the intersections and complete the eastern corridor for the Bay of Plenty.

Approach

We collaborated with several professional disciplines and stakeholders. For example, we have worked closely with the geometrics and geotechnical specialists, and local hapu group to develop site specific responses to the ecology, infrastructure, utilities, cultural narrative integration, wayfinding and wider masterplanning to create connectivity for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. We also used powerful imagery to illustrate how pedestrians and cyclists use the provided spaces and move safely between Bayfair to Baypark.

Outcomes

The final design drawings are being completed and construction is now commencing on the project.
