He Tīwai Mātauranga, Heaton Normal Intermediate School – Landscape Design

Align have been involved in the redevelopment of He Tīwai Mātauranga, Heaton Normal Intermediate School, including Stages 1 – 4.
Stage 1 and 2 of project included the landscape works around the immediate buildings including the introduction of COLA’s (covered outdoor learning areas). Stage 1 works also included 4 new hardcourts located opposite Elmwood tennis club. Stage 1 was constructed and completed in early 2023 with Stage 2 is currently under construction.

Stage 3 again involved the demolition of existing buildings and will be replaced with a new Block, Block 6 which will house the technology department. The scope for this stage included new hardscape and planting around the immediate building which creates outdoor learning spaces for kids and teachers. This stage will be completed in 2024.

Stage 4 is the final piece to the puzzle for the redevelopment of He Tīwai Mātauranga, Heaton Normal Intermediate School. It will be the ‘heart’, the center of the school. It is a universal space including both active and passive areas for teaching and play.
